Things that don't suck.

July 22, 2011

I watched the Project Runway Season 3 finale like 5 years ago with my best friend when Jeffrey Sebelia won. As he was crowned the victor, Heidi Klum excitedly asked, "How do you feel?!" and he very understatedly replied "this does not suck...." Ummm, no shit Sherlock, you just won $100,000 ! We thought his response was so funny, and now when we like something, or I guess- don't not like it, we always say "this does not suck." Well these things do not suck. And let's keep the color scheme at the front end of the rainbow, shall we?

Jessica Rabbit

Hmm, then maybe I don't wear red very much because I seldom doubt my outfit. Or maybe I'm just lacking a "duh" closet staple. I only own two solid red items, one is a pair of cherry skinny jeans and the other is this dress I got last year for the holidays but refused to let the pictures surface (upload to Facebook) because I was paler than Anne Hathaway's left armpit.

I know everyone swears by an LBD, but as I've mentioned before, I almost never wear black. Because honestly, if I were to enter a social gathering, the last girl I'd notice would be one in a black dress. Unless she had like green hair or something. Sorry. An LRD (not a term) on the other hand, makes a statement. It says- "I've graduated from pink. I am strong, I am invincible, I am WOMAAAAN, womaaAAaan." Seriously though, what's more va-va-voom for cocktails and a Saturday night dinner date than a lipstick red dress with sky high heels and a sparkly clutch? I actually don't know, because I've never worn head to toe red on a date. But I would like to. It's time to channel my inner Jessica Rabbit, in one of these.
TFNC Frill Sleeve Dress $77.58, ASOS Body Con Dress $ 51.72, TED BAKER Dress $132.74
And for a more casual occasion like a luncheon or even work,
ASOS Knot Dress $86.20, ASOS Tulip Dress $68.96
I just love this last one. It's the absolute perfect shade. I can think of a million ways to wear it. With/ without a thin belt at the waist, or dressed up with heels and with tons of jewelry, or dressed down with a simple fedora, sandals, and shades.
ARTH Fedora $60, TOPSHOP Sunglasses, HENRI BENDEL Bow Bracelets $128, HENRI BENDEL Rock n Rolla Bracelet $68, ASOS Hor Bracelet, TORY BURCH Mclane Mini Bag $365, ASOS Sandals $60.34
CORALIA LEETS Earrings, HENRI BENDEL Rock n Rolla Bracelet, HOUSE OF HARLOW Leopard Clutch $255, JEFFREY CAMPBELL Booties $168
In my quest for tonight's topic, I came across some very similar "splurge vs. steal" finds. I actually think the less expensive ones are prettier, so keep the change ya filthy animal.
MOSCHINO Heart Print Dress $750 vs DAHLIA Heart Print Dress$106.88
ASOS Shift $60.34 vs. PREEN Shift $1,110
Now, let's go paint the town purple!

Dressing Room Diaries

July 20, 2011

Forever 21 Fun! I walked in, locked my eyes on a black and white striped pleated skirt ($15!!) and spent the rest of my time looking for tops to wear with. So here's my one skirt, 5 ways. Except for the last way, I just didn't feel like putting my pants back on to take the picture...
KEPT
(and wore the next night to a bbq)
LEFT
KEPT
(I love cut-out shoulders! &will also look good untucked with whit skinny jeans)
LEFT
KEPT
(With the intention of pairing with skinny jeans or cutoff shorts.)
And can we please talk about how much I hate love the strategically slanted mirrors in Forever 21? It's no secret that almost every dressing room has a slightly leaning mirror to make you look thinner and more elongated, but I swear F21 has got to be pushing a 60 degree angle! My legs have never looked better! Basically...because they don't look like that at all.

So we've all heard of the Coconut water fad, right? It's kind of like Kabbalah. Everyone's doing it because some celebrity was spotted with it and supposed to be good for you. But it isn't really that cool and you're probably thinking "People better freaking notice that I'm drinking this very trendy beverage, because it sucks!" Well, I tried the coconut craze and let's just say I was very confused as to what all the fuss was about. However when I saw this milk I thought- "now this I HAVE to try!" because it actually does sound delicious. Wrong-o. It tastes like dirty dishwater. I want my $4 back.

Lip Service

A couple weeks ago, I went to Wal-Mart to get some Swiffer pads and a new blender. But hellllllooo, found myself in the cosmetics "department"- which just so happens to be conveniently located next to the cat food and fish tanks. I say "conveniently,"not because the proximity is convenient for my shopping needs(Lawd knows I don't have a damn cat) but because the repugnant smells of Fancy Feast ensure that I won't dilly dally too long among the fake eyelashes and glitter shadows. I have an extremely heightened sense of smell and if something is funky I start to taste it in my mouth and gag. So, I did a quick walk through the makeup lane, giving each brand a once-over, and at the very last display (easy, breezy, beautiful Cover Girl) something new and enchanting caught my eye.

The new Lip Perfection packaging looked so sleek and pretty with the purpley chrome tube and the swatches of color on the bottom that I had to stop. Even if it meant braving another moment of the kitty litter. One shade in particular called "Euphoria" stood out the most.
I recently blogged about my new infatuation with this top I ordered and how I envisioned it with a deep lip.
I didn't even have to think about whether or not I should buy it. So I ran home to try it on.
Bummer, dude. While it is definitely a little darker than this picture conveys, it's not as Morticia Adams as I was hoping. So on my latest trip to the Target, I picked up a nearly black Wet n Wild lipstick to mix it with.
Muuuuch better!
Next time I will brush my hair! Probably not though.
If everything pans out the way I am hoping and my whole imagined look comes into fruition, there will be a day in my near future when I will resemble this:
Except 20 lbs heavier and with full arms-maybe even hands if I'm lucky!

Just call me Warren Buffett

July 12, 2011

How do I put this? I don't know anything about "money." Like, at all. I've overdrawn my bank account more times than I can count, I wouldn't know what a hedge fund was if it bit me in the ass, I thought Warren Buffet sang "Cheeseburger in Paradise," and I didn't pay my taxes for three years in a row. (Don't worry, the IRS knows and I have been dealt with....). However, opposites attract and I found husband who majored in finance and spends just as much time managing his brokerage accounts, playing on E-Trade, and supervising his IRA's as he does on ESPN.com (which is a lot of time). Since we have joined forces, he has made every financial decision for our family, because we both know full well that I would single-handedly run us into bankruptcy. Recently though, he suggested I buy stock! He said, "think about a company that you see doing well in the future or staying consistent and not plummeting." So I said,"Colgate-Palmolive! Because everyone has to brush their teeth and wash their hands!" He looked at me like, ummmm okay....? And then told me he meant one of the stores I like to shop at, or one of their parent companies. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! He wanted me to invest in clothes?? Hollaaaa. The first store I mentioned was ASOS (because if you haven't noticed, it's one of the only places I shop and I check it more then Facebook and my email combined). I found out two things as we investigated it's history- 1. the acronym stands for As Seen On Screen and 2. their shares have literally skyrocketed over the last 5 years. So with little encouragement, he agreed to invest. I informed him that while I may not know jack about the market, I do know that you have to support your investments by buying their products. So I happily added this list of goods to my cart in an attempt to boost our already thriving share. Because hey, it takes money to make money...
